Objective: To determine the effect of castration on insulin resistance, quality of life and immune function in prostate cancer (PCa) patients. Methods: A total of 57 patients with PCa definitely diagnosed by prostate biopsy underwent bilateral orchiectomy. No patient had a history of diabetes mellitus before operation. Total hemoglobin, leukocytes, platelets, albumin and alkaline phosphatase in the blood before surgery and at 1 year after surgery were analyzed using a full automatic biochemical analyzer, and neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet / lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in the peripheral blood counts.
Results: The level of serum testosterone (T) and free testosterone (FT) in patients with PCa decreased greatly at 1 month after castration. Compared with them before surgery, the serum T and FT levels were decreased significantly at 1, 2, 4 and 8 months and 1 year after castration. Triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) increased gradually with the extension of time after surgery.
Levels of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) show a clear upward trend of 2 months after surgical castration. The results of flow cytometry showed that the cluster of differentiation (CD) 4 + and CD4 + / CD8 + derived real, whereas CD8 + T cells grew significantly compared with those before castration (p <0.05) After castration, both fasting blood glucose and insulin fasting increased obviously in patients (p <0.05). 2 h postprandial blood glucose and insulin were raised obviously at 1 month after castration (p <0.05). Insulin resistance index increased steadily and dramatically (p <0.05).
Castration aggravates insulin resistance, reduces immune function and improves quality of life of prostate cancer patients
Research Note: Comparison of chemistry and electrolyte parameters chicken blood between portable analyzer i-STAT1 VetScan VS2 clinical and biochemical serum panel using Hy-Line commercial laying hen egg white
I-STAT1 clinical analysis has become an increasingly popular tool in the clinical production animal medicine because it can provide pen-side results in a cost effective and timely manner when compared with gas benchtop blood serum biochemistry and analytical chemistry standard. This study compared the results of a portable Abbott i-STAT1 analyzer and Abaxis VetScan VS2 for glucose (Glu, mg / dL), ionized Ca (mmol / L), Na (mmol / L), and K (mmol / L) values.
Three genetically distinct commercial varieties (CV) of the Hy-Line laying hen egg white used in this study (Hy-Line W-36, Hy-Line W-80, and the Hy-Line W-80 +). Thirty blood samples (n = 10 per CV) acquired in the home production of the brachial vein and simultaneously analyzed by a portable device i-STAT1. Serum from these 22 samples each analyzed through the VetScan VS2, a serum benchtop clinical biochemistry analyzer, using the VetScan Avian / Reptilian Profile Plus reagent rotor.

A paired T-test was used to test the statistical difference in the way between the two instruments for each parameter. Parameters with an average difference significant is the subject of correlation and regression analysis to further evaluate the relationship between the results of two methods. significant differences between the means found for Glu, Na, and K. level ca level was found to be directly comparable with the analysis instrument 2. This comparison is explained the importance of validation of the clinical analysis when applying different strategies of diagnostic medicine in poultry.
